SUMMARY
In many lists of butterflies of Bosnia and Herzegovina Chapman’s blue, Polyommatus thersites (Cantener, 1835), is mentioned only in audits of S. Lelo, because the first absolutely confirmed data was not published until 1991th year. Actually, R. Sijarić found two female individuals of this species in the collection of butterflies of B. Mihaljević: from Trebević mountain (Vidikovac, 4th of August, 1974th) and Igman mountain (Brezovača, 6th of August, 1980th), with the note that identification was confirmed by great butterfly expert for this part of Europe: Z. Lorković (Sijarić, 1991a, 1991b). This species wasn’t mentioned in overview by O. Kudrna or in summary overviews by many authors for Bosnia and Herzegovina (Jakšić, 1988; Kudrna, 2002 etc.).
Members of this species in Bosnia and Herzegovina can probably be found from May to August (but it can not be absolutely confirmed based on only two individuals found until now on this area). They appear in two (in Europe known from April to June and from June to the end of August) or more generations, usually on flower meadows, especially one with species within Onobrychis genus (almost as a rule on O. vicifolie species) which are food for larvae, from plain up to around 1500 altitude.
By analysing 118 male from genus Polyommatus Latreille, 1804 that collected Maja Džemidžić fore morphological analysis of Polyommatus icarus (Linnaeus, 1758) males for graduation during the July of 2010th, authors have identified one male of Polyommatus thersites (Cantener, 1835) species, known as Chapman’s blue.
Mentioned individual was captured on 28th of July, 2010th (and stored in Zoological collection “Lelo”: Preparations: Code 071) at Barice ((43°53 ́32 ̈ North and 18°26 ́43 ̈ South on south side of Ozren mountain near Sarajevo, Municipality of Stari Grad, Sarajevo Canton). Identification of this individual was made based on non-existence of points on the cell-bases and the basis of space s1b, but also by proper line distribution of points in postdiscal area, in spaces: s1a and s1b.
Beside this individual, also two individuals of Polyommatus icarus (Linnaeus, 1758) morph icarinus Scriba, 1791, species were confirmed, but from much lower locality – Dobrinjski potok (Fig. 6-7). These forms are also distinguished by having no points on cell- based space and base of space s1b, but points in spaces s1a and s1b are never completely one below the other or together in straight line with the point in space s2.
The analysis of literature data clearly indicate that the species P. thersites Cantener is known only around Sarajevo area in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Chapman’s blue has been observed at the territory of Sarajevo Canton, at the three mountains that belong to the two municipalities. Mountains Trebević and Ozren are on the territory of Municipality of Stari Grad, and mountain Igman is on territory of Municipality of Ilidža.
The species P. thersites Cantener is known in all three neighboring country, so this finding makes logical connection of total area of this species on western part of Balkan Peninsula.
